Telegraph Hill
Telegraph Hill is a great choice, says Pilar. This hill used to be called "High Hill", Loma Alta, and "Goat Hill" but believe me - the climb is worth it!
The name Telegraph Hill comes from the semaphore that was erected here in 1849 to signal the nature of ships coming into the port, soon followed by the first Californian telegraph in 1853. The semaphore keeper was the first person in California to hear the news of statehood on Oct. 18,1850.
My favorite thing about this neighborhood is the steep gardens. Keep an eye out if you hear sharp caws and you might see the local flock of parakeets!
There are so many places I'd like to show you!
Pilar opens a map. She is very excited.
Where shall we go first?
