Father Fancisco Palou, a member of the Anza Expedition, had a brushwood shelter built here, on the shores of the Lake Of Sorrows, and said the first mass in San Francisco on June 29, 1776. By October necessary church documents arrived so that a log and thatch building could be dedicated as Mission Dolores on October 9, 1776.
