Hotaling Place

Financial District

Anson Parsons Hotaling built “the biggest warehouse for booze in the west” here in 1866. Miraculously^{1Perhaps through the power of Hotaling's friendship with booze-loving firefighters and a mile-long hose from Fisherman's Wharf} the booze survived the 1906 earthquake and fire, which happy outcome Hotaling immediately advertised in all local newspapers.

Look down - do you see the wavy lines along the pavement? That's the shoreline of 1849. Everything to the East of here was water.
