Lincoln Beachey's last flight

Marina

Father of modern aerobatics, America's first stunt pilot, the “Daredevil of the Air,” the “Genius of Aviation,” the “Divine Flyer”, Mr. Pan Pacific, Lincoln Beachey, finished his last flight here on March 14,1915 as his Beachey-Eaton monoplane folded mid-dive and became an arrow aimed at the Bay.

Beachey's engine was recovered intact to be used by Katherine Stinson (first woman to fly at night, and first woman to carry mail in USA) during her 1916 flights over Japan and China.

His place as the resident stunt pilot of the Exhibition was taken by Art Smith, the first pilot to fly at night, who performed the first illuminated night flight right here, with lights and fireworks attached to his plane.
