The prettiest apartment building on Nob Hill

This Haussmann-style apartment building, built by the prominent Bay Area architect Houghton Sawyer^{1Not, as some will tell you, for Al Capone, who was only 15 at the time and living in Chicago}, looks today very much as it did in 1914; the only major details that disappeared are the pool on the roof and a posh Russian restaurant on the ground floor. Patty Hearst lived here with her four armed guards in the 1970s, while out on bail following her kidnapping and time with the Symbionese Liberation Army. Anyone wishing to do likewise today would need to follow her example and rob a bank, as apartments here go for well over five million dollars, not to mention the $5,000+ monthly HOA fee.
